I fell off the blogging wagon for a bit thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a public school teacher, I had to jump in head first to tackle transitioning my curriculum into something that can be delivered digitally. This is definitely no easy task and it has taken up a lot of my time.
I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this pandemic that I’m not even sure that I have words for yet. I do know that I am incredibly brokenhearted for the world and my country. I’m also very acutely worried about what life will be like when this is over. What will the travel industry look like? How many beloved businesses won’t make it? How many people are we going to lose?
These are all questions that plague me and keep me up at night but they are also things that I can do nothing about except by doing my part to practice social distancing. Since I’ve been given more time at home due to this virus and social distancing I’m trying to focus on completing tasks that I never feel like I have enough time to do or that brings me joy. One of the things I have been focused on is deep cleaning and finally decorating our house four years after moving in…oops.
When You Can’t See the World, Bring the World Home
If you’ve spent anytime around me, you probably know how much I love to travel. This is the first spring break I’ve spent at home in a very long time. My heart aches for the loss of the ability to travel. I’m fully aware that people’s lives are much more important than any trip I could be on but that doesn’t mean I don’t still feel some grief over the whole situation.
Since traveling is so important to me, I’ve attempted to incorporate travel, maps, souvenirs, and all those places I’ve fell in love with over the years into our home. Everything from globes to cookie tins adorn different places throughout our home. If I can’t travel the world, then I can bring the world to my home as much as possible.
Creating My Quiet Place
My bedroom has slowly become a main focus for me. It is quite literally my haven and quiet space when I need a break from the world. I’ve tried to fill it with things I love. Last year I acquired some beautiful prints of my favorite city, Paris, and created a stunning gallery wall that makes me smile every morning. I keep books on my nightstand that I bought in Paris as well.
I recently collaborated with an exceptional company, Photowall, and they were kind enough to send me one of their beautiful prints. The quality is amazing! Photowall has so many beautiful options which you can get in wallpaper, wall murals, framed prints, or canvas prints. There are literally thousands of images to choose from.
I knew I wanted something travel related. One of my favorite things to visit when I travel is churches and cathedrals. I spent hours just sitting churches all across Europe just taking in the architecture, the history, and the atmosphere. Churches are almost always the number one thing I can’t wait to see in a new city. I knew when I saw this print of the cloisters at Canterbury Cathedral that it would be the perfect addition to my bedroom. It settled nicely right next to my side of the bed so it is one of the first things I see every morning.
Photowall was an exceptionally professional company. I can’t recommend them highly enough. The selection of available images is enormous which means I now have a HUGE wish list. I’m positive more of their gorgeous products will be gracing my walls soon. The print I ordered arrived very quickly and was packaged well so it wouldn’t be damaged. I was super impressed.
Quarantine To-do List
Next on my list of “quarantine” decorating and craft projects includes some wall art for the dining room and living room, new houseplants and container gardens (don’t worry! I plan to order my plants online), and a ton of craft projects. Stay tuned! I’m sure I’ll have more to share soon.
If you like this beautiful print from Photowall as much as I do, check out their website. They’ve also graciously agreed to give The French Lemon readers 25% off any purchase with the code thefrenchlemon2020 through April 30 at Photowall. Enjoy friends!
Stay home and safe, friends! Talk to you soon!
